Abstract

In this project we plan to continue our work on testing different models for physics at the Terascale with global fits to the relevant experimental results, in particular data from the Large-Hadron-Collider (LHC). We investigate the Standard Model of particle physics (SM) and theories describing physics beyond the SM, with some emphasis on supersymmetric extensions. Confronting the new data expected from the LHC at higher centre-of-mass energies with the most advanced theoretical descriptions will lead to fundamentally new insights into the nature of physics at the Terascale. The techniques of global fits will be crucial for discriminating between different possible alternatives of the underlying physics. Our studies can be extended into completely unexplored regions of the respective parameter space of the above-mentioned models, and a careful treatment of all relevant theoretical and experimental uncertainties will be crucial for assessing the compatibility of the considered models with the data. Substantial work is needed on both experimental and theoretical parts of the project, and new methods and techniques need to be developed to achieve these goals. We foresee to make those new algorithms public, in order to make them accessible also to the wider community, and to apply them for improving the existing software tools Gfitter and MasterCode.
